Best Dog-Friendly Green Spaces in Lisbon (Part 1)

There’s nothing more peaceful and therapeutic than a long and peaceful walk with your dog in a green park. Lisbon is blessed with plenty of dog-friendly green spaces so we decided to put together the first part of the guide to the most beautiful and welcoming spots in the city (and where dogs should be on the leash).

Regular walks have great benefits for dogs and humans: they help build stronger muscles, improve cardiovascular fitness and weight management, reduce stress, lift mood, and deepen the human–animal bond. For dogs, sniffing and exploring nature provides lots of essential mental stimulation, spending their energy and having lots of fun.

Whether you live in Lisbon or you’re just visiting, we hope this guide helps you plan your next park adventure with your best friend (and we even decided to include as a bonus the last suggestion that it is not actually a park but it is a beautiful boardwalk that it will blow your mind):

1) Parque Florestal de Monsanto

. Lisbon’s green lung of forest trails, natural shade and big horizons.
. Café with a breathtaking view; picnic/BBQ zones; viewpoints; water points; dog park in maintenance.
Community tip: Go early for quiet woods and cooler air.

2) Jardim do Campo Grande (Jardim Mário Soares)

. Central and lively; lawns, lakes and a proper dog run.
. Fenced dog park with agility + benches; lakes; kiosks/cafés; waste bins.

3) Parque José Gomes Ferreira (Mata de Alvalade)

. A calm woodland loop perfect for shaded walks.
. Two picnic areas; water points; Esplanada da Mata kiosk; clear, easy paths.
Community tip: Sundays often become informal meetups near the kiosk.

4) Parque Quinta das Conchas

. Half manicured garden, half small forest - plenty of different environments

Community tip: Mornings are peaceful; afternoons are great for social dogs.

5) Parque Eduardo VII

. Grand green terraces and one of Lisbon’s best skyline views.
. Wide lawns; scenic viewpoint; Estufa Fria next door; shaded benches.

6) Jardim Amália Rodrigues

. Relaxed garden above Eduardo VII with water and lawn areas.
. Shallow pond where dogs often cool down; Linha d’Água café (pet-friendly terrace); amphitheatre lawn.

7) Jardim do Torel

. An intimate hilltop garden full of shade and charm. One of the best views of Lisbon.
. Tiered lawns; benches; panoramic viewpoint; water fountain; seasonal kiosk.

Community tip: There is not much green or shade around so make sure to walk early in the morning or late afternoon for cooler temps and maybe you can see the flamingos nearby.

10) Parque Ribeirinho Oriente (Prata Riverside Village)

. Modern, open riverside green with an easy, flat promenade.
. Riverside path; lawns; benches & kiosks; wide Tagus views.
